Clayton Kershaw whitewashed North Carolina on 4 hits at SAFECO Field where the
Tacoma Rainiers beat the North Carolina Knuckleheads in 10 innings 1 to
0.
No runners had crossed home plate after the regulation nine. Tacoma won the
hard fought contest in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Casey
Blake blasted a solo shot making Tacoma the victor and beginning a joyous
home town celebration. Tacoma had only 3 hits for the game.
Kershaw(11-6) went the distance for the shutout. Johan Santana(8-9) suffered
the loss. He gave up only 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 and 1/3 innings.
When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Kershaw offered, 'The fan's
really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up
there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy tonight - of course, it
would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
