squared off in a tense pitching duel, Newport News Builders finally emerged
victorious over Tacoma Rainiers, 3 to 1.
Harden pitched a solid game. He allowed just 3 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.
Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning.
Daniel McCutchen got the save, his 1st. Scott Dalane was just happy to get a
win, 'We've had such a bad streak of games -- boy, it's great to get the
monkey off our back. Now maybe we can relax a little and play the kind of
baseball of which we are capable.'

Brandon McCarthy(13-5) pitched a fine game. He went 7 innings surrendering 5

put down the rally.

Mike Carp left the yard and had 2 RBI as the Tacoma Rainiers defeated the
hapless Newport News Builders 6 to 3 at SAFECO Field.
Tacoma scored 5 runs in the decisive bottom of the 2nd inning when they came
up with 5 base hits. That early run support was all that Michael
Pineda(11-6) required. Newport News was out-hit by Tacoma, 10 hits to 6.
Leo Nunez earned his 1st save. John Lackey(3-11) was given the loss. He
pitched 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 walk.

The New Dorp Donkeys edged the Tacoma Rainiers in 10 innings at SAFECO Field
by the score of 3 to 2.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. New Dorp came out on top in
the 10th inning. Humberto Quintero tripled. After an out was recorded,
Miguel Tejada came to bat and slapped a base-hit. After another out, Mike
Stanton got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.
New Dorp totaled 7 hits on the night.

Brandon Beachy reeled off a total of 13 strikeouts as the North Carolina
Knuckleheads topped the Tacoma Rainiers by a score of 1 to 0 at SAFECO
Field.
Beachy(8-5) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Tacoma offense. He
allowed just 6 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 3.94 to
3.64. Tacoma tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Brandon McCarthy(12-5) was charged with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser,
pitching 8 innings and not allowing an earned run.
Beachy didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had
13 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent
total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good,
isn't it?'

Leo Nunez pitched 4 strong innings as the Tacoma Rainiers defeated the North
Carolina Knuckleheads in 14 innings by the score of 2 to 1 at SAFECO
Field.
The score was tied at 1 after nine. Tacoma won it in the 14th inning. Yadier
Molina lined a single. Jose Tabata next to the plate and he reached on an
error. Ichiro Suzuki then smacked a single giving Tacoma the win as 40,338
happy fans joyfully celebrated. Tacoma had 15 hits for the night while North
Carolina had 8.
The win went to Nunez(1-0) who allowed no runs in 4 innings. Jason Frasor(3-4)
was given the loss in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not
allow an earned run in his 2 innings of work.
Tacoma now has a record of 67-46. David Meese was unhappy with his club's
recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be
embarrassing after a while.'

Brandon McCarthy retired 10 batters on strikeouts at SAFECO Field as the
Tacoma Rainiers beat the lifeless D.C. Bulldogs in 15 innings 4 to 3.
The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Finally, Tacoma pulled
the game out in the 15th inning. Omar Infante slapped a one-base hit. After
another out, Luis Ayala got his chance to keep things going, but he went down
on strikes. Jose Tabata then singled. Tyler Chatwood then uncorked a pitch
that was ruled a passed ball giving Tacoma the win as 40,360 happy fans
joyfully celebrated. Neither team was able to score until the 6th inning.
The victory was credited to Ayala(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Chatwood(3-7) was tagged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and
no walks in 2/3 of an inning.
'It's been a rough ride lately, but this was a good win for us' said Michael
Swanson, 'Maybe this will put us back on track.'
