History was made in Tacoma as Clayton Richard(1-3) tossed a no-hitter and the
Tacoma Rainiers defeated the Asbury Jukes by the score of 5 to 0.
 
Richard provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd
at SAFECO Field day.  He walked 7 Asbury batters.  The tension was mounting
with every inning after the 6th.  Richard appeared oblivious himself to the
mounting history until two were out in the 9th.  Only then, did he allow
himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound.  After the 2nd
inning, neither team was able to score.  
 
The loss was charged to Carl Pavano(12-14).  When asked how his stuff was out
there, Richard looked a bit incredulous (as did this reporter) and replied 'A
bit better than average, I'd have to say'
