WEB GEMS- Top 2nd: Jordan Schafer robbed Kelly Shoppach of an extra base hit.

Clayton Kershaw came through with a solid 9 innings as the Tacoma Rainiers
outscored the Asbury Jukes 1 to 0.

Asbury surrendered what proved to be the only run of the contest when Tacoma
scored in the 5th inning. Jeff Mathis drew a walk. Jordan Schafer next to
the plate and he stroked a single. Schafer was safe on a stolen base.
Kershaw was up next and he worked the squeeze play to perfection. Asbury
made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across.

For Kershaw(7-1) it was his 2nd shutout this year. The losing pitcher was Carl
Pavano(1-3). Michael Swanson was very impressed with his pitcher, Kershaw,
'He had unusually good pitch placement tonight. It was almost unfair - but a
beautiful game to watch from where I sat'
