First baseman David Ortiz hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Illinois Gamblers
defeated the Tacoma Rainiers by the score of 3 to 2 at SAFECO Field.

The deciding run was scored by Illinois in the 8th. After an out was
recorded, Nyjer Morgan tripled. Reed Johnson came next and he hit a
sacrifice fly. Ortiz then doubled. Josh Willingham was a strikeout victim,
unable to help out. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the
6th inning.

Eric O'Flaherty(3-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1/3 of an
inning. Mariano Rivera preserved the game for O'Flaherty, recording his his
9th. Brian Fuentes(1-1) absorbed the loss in relief.

'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed. Man alive, things were getting awfully
grim,' noted Matt Lamphear. 'Now, we need to string a bunch of wins together
and turn things around!'
